It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Hannah Marie Bowes, 29, of Boston, Massachusetts. A beloved daughter, sister, partner, and friend, Hannah left us far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and light.

Hannah graduated from Groton‑Dunstable Regional School District in 2014. After exploring various academic paths, she discovered her true calling in nursing. With determination and grace, she entered the field as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and began working in long‑term care facilities. There, she provided exceptional care to elderly patients, treating them not as clients, but as family.
While working full‑time, Hannah pursued further education at Labouré College. In 2021, she earned her nursing degree and successfully passed the NCLEX exam. Soon after, she began serving as a nurse for the state of Massachusetts during a critical period of the COVID‑19 pandemic. Her competence, warmth, and unwavering dedication made her a trusted and essential caregiver during those challenging times.
Hannah’s skills and heart soon led her to a role as an elementary school nurse in the Weston School District. In this position, she became a reassuring presence for students and staff alike. Colleagues recall that Hannah not only provided expert clinical care but also made every child feel supported, heard, and loved. Her calm presence, listening ear, and gentle encouragement turned school hallways into places of safety and comfort.
More than her professional accomplishments, Hannah will be remembered for her boundless kindness, playful spirit, and capacity to bring joy into everyday moments. Whether through spontaneous laughter, heartfelt conversations, or lighthearted antics—like impulsive cartwheels barefoot in the grass—she lived authentically and fully.
She had a remarkable ability to find beauty and humor in small things and uplift those around her. She was deeply connected to her loved ones and had a heartfelt appreciation for nature, travel, and friendship.
Hannah adored her Maltese dog, Casper, whom she affectionately called her “baby boy.” She found joy in simple routines with him by her side. Traveling was another passion—she recently shared memorable adventures in Italy and Switzerland with her partner, Moe El Khatib. In summer months, she could often be found relaxing at Ogunquit Beach among lifelong friends, where laughter and meaningful conversation were always present.
Family and Survivors
Hannah is survived by her devoted mother, Carol Bowes; loving sister, Brittany Bowes; and her cherished partner, Moe El Khatib. She was preceded in death by her father, James J. Bowes, and half-brother, Lee Wiitala. She also leaves her half-sister, Monique Wiitala, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends, all of whom were deeply touched by her presence.
Hannah’s gentle spirit and joyful energy give rise to a lasting legacy of love, compassion, and authenticity. She made the world a softer, more beautiful place — and her absence is deeply felt in the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known her light.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to the Hannah Marie Bowes Memorial Nursing Scholarship.
